Therapy Network North East: September Networking Event

Therapy Network North East: September Networking Event

Last Friday (September 12th) we gathered at the Quaker Meeting House in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, for another Therapy Network North East event that brought together therapists for connection, learning, and community.

A valuable space for connection and growth

Attendees shared conversations over coffee, had a good old natter, met new colleagues, and reflected on both the challenges and joys of working in the therapy profession. The continuing professional development (CPD) element of our events is designed to be practical, insightful, and relevant, adding real value to therapists’ professional journeys.

One therapist summed it up beautifully:

The network is a great place to meet and chat to colleagues, hear great speakers and have a cuppa together. Highly recommended.

Spotlight on our speaker

We were excited to welcome Dr Katherine Uher as our guest speaker for September’s meet-up.

Katherine is an openly autistic psychotherapist, author, and researcher specialising in complex trauma within the autistic community. She brings both lived experience and clinical expertise to her work, offering a unique perspective on how trauma and neurodivergence intersect.

She is the author of the forthcoming book Why So Many Autistic People Have Complex Trauma - and What We Can Do About It (JKP, 2026), and the creator of the Trauma-Informed Support Model (TISM), which challenges deficit-based approaches and centres human dignity. Through her work with therapists, families, and autistic people, Katherine promotes approaches rooted in empathy, authenticity, and systemic change.

Her talk was both moving and thought-provoking, sparking meaningful conversation among attendees and leaving plenty to reflect on in clinical practice and personal development.

Here is what some of you told us afterwards:

Warm and welcoming group with a wonderful speaker with an abundance of knowledge to share. Great to meet, connect and share.
What a gorgeous and valuable organisation. The event was relaxed and welcoming, and as a new therapist this feels incredibly important to be part of a community. Thank you!

    Why these events matter

Working as a therapist can sometimes feel isolating. Therapy Network North East exists to bring professionals together in a supportive, non-judgmental environment where wellbeing and growth are valued as much as CPD.

Our events usually welcome between 20 and 30 people. This keeps the group small enough to feel personal and inclusive, while still offering a rich variety of perspectives and professional experience. Many attendees tell us that what begins as professional development soon becomes genuine connection and peer support.

    Stay connected

We have not set the date for our next event just yet, but we would love to welcome you when it is confirmed. You can stay updated by joining our mailing list at www.therapynetworknortheast.co.uk or connecting with our community on Facebook or LinkedIn.

Together, we are building a community where therapists can meet, learn, and grow without the overwhelm.
